EAST PRAIRIE -- Lucille Smithson Jernigan, 74, died at 11:53 a.m. Oct. 15, 2007, at her home.
Born Jan. 18, 1933, in East Prairie, to the late Luther and Birdie Baker Banks, she lived all her life in East Prairie where she was employed as Parent Involvement coordinator for the East Prairie Headstart for 27 years.
In September 1948, she married Leroy Smithson who preceded her in death on June 5, 1980. On June 15, 1984, she married Bill Jernigan who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Laurie Smithson of Columbus, Ga.; one daughter and son-in-law, Sherri and Larry Hart of Sikeston; two stepsons and a daughter-in-law, Greg Jernigan of East Prairie and Lenny and Janie Jernigan of Dexter; two stepdaughters and a son-in-law, Melissa and Jay Shands of Glenallen and Priscilla Jernigan of Charleston; one sister, Mary Jane Pool of St. Louis; and two grandchildren, one great-grandson, 10 stepgrandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.
Three brothers, Cecil Banks, George Banks and Shirley Banks; and one sister, Irene Hubbard, preceded her in death.
Visitation is at 6 p.m. today at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie where services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Thursday with Larry Lane officiating.
Burial will follow in the East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery.
