CAPE GIRARDEAU - The Sikeston junior varsity basketball team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 66-60 win against Cape Central in the Notre Dame JV Tournament on Wednesday.
Sikeston plays Charleston today in the championship game of the tournament at 3:30 p.m.
The Bulldogs were never threatened the entire game until the last couple minutes.
Sikeston led by as much as 20 through much of the second half before Cape Central rallied with a 10-0 run at the end of the game to make the score more respectable.
Sikeston built a 21-7 first quarter lead and extended it to 36-21 at the half. The Bulldogs extended it further in the third quarter as they led 49-33 entering the final frame.
Sikeston had four players reach double figures in scoring. Freshman Joe Lincoln led the way with 15 points, with five rebounds, five assists and four steals.
Freshman Julian Beard had 14 points on 5-of-5 shooting. Trey Spence added 13 points with seven rebounds and two blocked shots. Rod Moore chipped in 12 points with seven rebounds.
Kash Bratcher had five assists and three steals.
The Bulldogs blocked 10 shots, including three by Devin Woodson.
Cape Central was led by Jared Thomas and Anthony Hempstead with 13 points apiece.
