Looking Back in Time at Sept. 19

Friday, September 19, 2003

VANDUSER - Jimmy Hillard of Jackson, Tenn., visited with his cousin, Jerry Layton of Vanduser, this week.

SIKESTON - The grand opening of the Warren E. Hearnes for Governor campaign has been set for 7 p.m. Oct. 17 in the Sikeston Armory.

SIKESTON - School officials, city officials and friends of the schools will participate in a ground breaking ceremony to inaugurate the construction of the new Murray Lane Elementary School at 10 a.m. Friday at the school site.

SIKESTON - Students of the Patti Simmons School of Dance recently performed to the tune of "Seven Come Eleven" during the school's summer recital. They were: Shaun Burton, Leigh Ann Elliott, Lee Ann Jones and LaDonna Crest.

NEW MADRID - Mary Henry was nominated as a Daily Standard Good Neighbor because of her great concern for others. She can often be found out visiting friends or at the Golden Age Center helping others.

CARUTHERSVILLE - At least for Caruthersville, the second half meant a whole new ballgame and another chance. Not that it helped much. Even New Madrid County Central's sluggish second half was worth just eight points to Caruthersville. But in a 30-8 win, NMCC coach Ronnie Jones wasn't complaining.

SIKESTON - Marie Jones, along with her daughter and son-in-law, Larron and Ketsha Watson, recently opened Mama's Kitchen at 1117 W. Malone Ave. in Sikeston. The restaurant serves several homecooked specialties and can provide carryout orders.
