CHATAWA, Miss. - Sister Michaelette Seyer, SSND, 91, died July 31, 2004, at St. Mary of the Pines in Chatawa.
Born March 21, 1913, in Advance, the daughter of the late Philip and Alvina Seyer was given the name Alma Mary Seyer.
In 1934, when she entered the convent in St. Louis, she received the name Sister Michaelette and professed her vows as a school sister of Notre Dame in 1937. For the majority of her religious life, she served as a homemaker, cook and dietitian. She remained in Missouri and Illinois until relocating to Louisiana in 1950 to serve in the Madonna Manor boy's home, where she served for 25 years, with a two-year respite in New Orleans. In 1977, she moved to Mississippi, where she was dietitian for the sisters' retirement home in Chatawa and continued in that capacity until her own retirement in 1990.
She is survived by four brothers, Raymond Seyer of Cape Girardeau, Paul Seyer of Minneapolis and Lawrence Seyer and Elmer Seyer of Oran; and one sister, Mary Ann Woltering of Breese, Ill.
A wake service will be conducted at 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary of the Pines, followed with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. The Rev. Robert Dore will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Chatawa Cemetery.
A local memorial service will be held at a later date.
