SIKESTON - Morlan Dodge is going to have a new home and it is going to be super.

On May 5, John and Autry Morlan completed the purchase of the 10-acre former Kmart site along Main Street for the new Morlan Dodge Supercenter. Work began the next day on renovations with plans to be moved from their former Main Street location later this year.

"When this is finished, this will make us the largest dealership between St. Louis and Memphis," said Autry Morlan, about the Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep dealership which has been a part of the Sikeston scene since April 1999. He anticipates the dealership's inventory will double with the move to the new site.

"Sikeston has been a wonderful town to do business in," added Autry Morlan. "That is why we decided to enlarge."

Before the business makes the move across the street, extensive improvements are planned.

According to John Morlan, the 94,000-square-foot building will be completely remodeled to provide a showroom with enough space for 25 cars. "There will be under-roof shopping year-round," he noted.

Also planned is a child's play area and a small cafe. The service department will be enclosed and, the owners said, once a customer brings a vehicle in for service it will remain protected from the elements until the customer returns.
