Call 471-6636

I noticed in the paper about calls from telemarketers. Some calls that are "unavailable" are not from telemarketers but are from people who have car phones or have their numbers listed as unavailable.

There is a reward for the return of the bicycle stolen on Aug. 2 from Crowe Street. Call 471-0988.

This is a warning to everyone who has expired license plates. If I see your vehicle, I will take down your license number and turn it in to the police department. So just be warned.

Why isn't there a drop-off at the Humane Society for cats? Also, how can the Humane Society refuse to take animals at any given time? Sometimes when you go out there, they say they are full. So what are you supposed to do if you have strays?

We contacted Gabby Evans, executive director of the Sikeston Bootheel Humane Society. "We only have so much room and are under contract with the City of Sikeston and must house the animals the city brings in first, since we are under contract. Yes, we are in desperate need of another building, however, there are no funds. Also, we are only licensed to house so many animals in the State of Missouri and will be shut down if we have too many. We run strictly on donations. When we tell people we are full, we also ask them to wait a day or two and then call or come back. We have a vet come two or three times a week to euthanize the overpopulation of animals we have now to make room for more. This is why we don't understand when the public calls us 'killers,' when pet owners won't spay or neuter their pets. We are doing the best we can with what we have to work with and I apologize for any convenience caused by our limitations."

I want to SpeakOut about honesty. A lady at the Market Place who found my bag and they took care of it for me. I just thank and praise the Lord for those ladies and I pray that God will bless them greater than He has already. It could have been a disaster I could have lost my bag and everything that was in it, and everything was saved and all right. Again, I just want to thank and praise the Lord for those ladies and for them being so honest. I also want to thank the Market Place employees, good honest people like that.

A local pest control company came out and sprayed my house. They didn't do a good job and then caused problems at the bank. I called and called and never got to speak to the manager; they never returned my calls. Everyone gave me a runaround when I did call. As of now, I am and will forever be an ex-customer. You should learn to run your business right.

I am calling about the SpeakOut comment "Bush in the hot seat." President Bush is a person, too, and he makes mistakes. I believe President Bush is a godly person and when he said he opens with prayer every day, that's what he does. People talk about Bill Clinton and George Bush and Bill Clinton and George Bush. Our country says "One nation under God." One of these days, God is going to take his hand off of our nation and we're going to be done. People don't realize how many times our nation - the 4,000 or 5,000 people who were killed in the World Trade Center, people kill that many babies in a month in abortions. Our country has gotten what's coming to it because we should put God first. Instead, it puts money first. We're supposed to be "one nation under God." We're not one nation under God. We're one nation under the devil. God's going to remove his hand and we're going to be done and we're going to have a lot to answer for.
