Sonny Smith

SCOTT CITY - Leroy "Sonny" Smith, 65, died at 12:45 p.m. July 12, 2003, at his home.

Born Sept. 24, 1937, in Cape Girardeau, son of the late Bernie and Gladys "Opal" King Cassout, he was a welder and operator at the West Lake Quarry. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was a member of Laborers Local 1104 and the First Assembly of God Church in Scott City.

On Sept. 7, 1963, in Scott City, he married Carolyn Sue Schoen who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Kimberley Ashworth and Barbara Smith of Scott City; two brothers, Kenneth Cassout and Jay Cassout of Scott City; one sister, Murline Reed of Scott City; and three grandchildren.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City, where services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Randy Morse will officiate.

Burial will follow in Lightner Memorial Cemetery.
