ORAN - Willis T. Homes, 90, of Oran, died July 13, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Born March 6, 1913, in Edyville, Ky., son of the late Monroe and Eliza Helton Holmes, he was a retired self-employed farmer and member of the First Baptist Church of Oran.
He and Sarah Marie Yarbrough were married Sept. 8, 1934. She survives of the home.
Survivors in addition to his wife include: three sons, Leroy Holmes of Oran, Glenn Holmes of Sikeston and Bill Holmes of Oran; two daughters, Mary Ann Janner of McKenzie, Tenn., and Shirley Anderson of Sikeston; one brother, Edward Holmes of Davenport, Iowa; two sisters, Anna May Gillian of Mount Clare, Calif., and Beatrice Goetz of Davenport, Iowa; 13 grandchildren, Steve Holmes, Terry Holmes and Scott Holmes of Oran, Chad Holmes of Sikeston, Melissa Smith of Detroit, Mich., Tracy Powell of Niceville, Fla., Mark Janner of Tampa, Fla., Nathan Holmes of Oran, Jeremy Anderson, Joaquin Anderson and Ben Anderson of Sikeston, Brad Anderson of Columbia and Blake Anderson of Shawnee Mission, Kan.; and 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ovid Gene Holmes of Iowa and James Holmes of Arkansas; and four sisters, Lois Barker and Viola Barker of Davenport, Iowa, and Virna James and Ruby Edwards of Sikeston.
Visitation begins at 5 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Oran with the Rev. Ed Carter officiating.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Steve Holmes, Terry Holmes, Scott Holmes, Chad Holmes, Jeremy Anderson, Nathan Holmes, Joaquin Anderson, Ben Anderson, Mark Janner, Brad Anderson and Blake Anderson.
