DEXTER - The Sikeston Bulldog wrestling team took first place in the four-team Dexter Invitational on Saturday.
Of 13 competitors, the Bulldogs had eight wrestlers finish in first place and four finish in second.
Dexter, New Madrid County Central and Park Hills Central were other schools that competed.
"You couldn't ask for a better day," said Sikeston head coach Chris Hodgkiss. "We had some really good matches. Cody Weeks wrestled one of the best tournaments that I think he's ever wrestled. Tony Reynolds also looked really good this weekend. I was really proud of how those two came out and wrestled."
Both Weeks and Reynolds finished with 3-0 marks to take first place. Other 3-0, first place wrestlers were Shawn Cooper (130 pounds), Kyle Weeks (135), Cullen Looney (152), Lance Berry (160), Scotty Keenan (171) and Joe Johnson (heavyweight).
Wrestlers that went 2-1 and took second place finishes were Trace White (112), Ben Powers (119), Cody Ryan (125) and Andy Croxford (215). Only sophomore Salamar Cox, who was filling in for Malcolm Williams for ACT Testing, did not place for the Bulldogs.
"I wanted the kids to go and get multiple matches in one day and this tournament was a chance to do that," said Hodgkiss. "That's something that we're going to have to get used to so we can prepare for the tough competition that we will continue to see."
Sikeston will wrestle at Murphysboro on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
