PERRYVILLE - Vernon Clifford "Red" Wells, 71, died June 2, 2003, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
Born Dec. 11, 1931, in Stoddard County, he was the son of the late Levi Adolph and Myrtle McDaniel Wells.
On July 1, 1974, he married Wanda Aleta Lawson who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Clifford and Lori Wells of Perryville; three stepsons and one daughter-in-law, Allen and Debbie Reed of Senath, Butch Reed of Curuth and Charles Lee Reed of Germantown, Tenn.; one stepdaughter, Charlene Cochran of St. Louis; one brother, Farrell Wells of Dudley; five sisters, Mary Wells, Betty Clark and Opal Wells Holman of Sikeston, Wilma Break of Handy, Ark., and Carolyn Hayden of Charleston; and four grandchildren, 19 stepgrandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one stepson, Gary Reed; one stepdaughter, Carolyn King; two brothers, Sherman Wells and Harold Wells; and three sisters, Faye Ellen Wells, Helen Lovins and Teresa Wells.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston, where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday. The Rev Floyd Rickard, pastor of Spring River Baptist Church of Mammoth Springs, Ark., will officiate.
Burial will follow in the New Morley Cemetery at Morley.
