EAST PRAIRIE -- Robert J. McIllwain, 87, died at 2:16 p.m. Oct. 15, 2007, in the Missouri Delta Medical Center at Sikeston.
Born Nov. 17, 1919, in East Prairie, to the late John Williams and Bessie S. Duncan McIllwain, he had lived in Cicero, Ill., for several years where he was employed as a machinist for the Goss Printing Company for 32 years before moving back to East Prairie in 2000. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II, and was awarded a Bronze Star for the Marshall Islands campaign.
On July 28, 1943, he married Josephine A. Petri who preceded him in death on March 8, 2004.
Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Robert J. and Sandra McIllwain Jr. of Peyton, Colo.; one daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Tom Heiting of San Diego; five sisters, Alfreda Thresher of East Prairie, Ivalee Lawley of Old Appleton, Charlene Hutcheson of Orlando, Fla., Bobbie Faye Widdows of East Peoria, Ill., and Pauline Machalk of Crossville, Tenn.; and seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation is from noon until time of services at 1 p.m. Friday at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie. The Rev. Scott Sunnenberg will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery in East Prairie.
