SIKESTON - Alonzo W. Pond, explorer, lecturer and adventurer, will be at the Sikeston High School this Thursday. The public is invited to hear Pond speak on Algeria and North Africa.


SIKESTON - At the San Antonio Aviation Cadet Center's pre-flight school for pilots, 94 cadets from Missouri, including John F. Ferrell of Sikeston, are learning the fundamentals necessary for actual aerial instruction.

BLOOMFIELD - Richland's unbeaten Rebels evaded near upset here Saturday night by scoring five points in the last 20 seconds of the game to mark a come-from-behind 46-43 victory over the Bloomfield Wildcats in one of the most hectic frays of the entire season.

SIKESTON - As one of 85 school district involved in the equitable funding issue, Sikeston schools are watching and waiting for an answer from the Missouri State Supreme Court. Lawyers for schools and the state argued the education funding case Tuesday before the Missouri Supreme Court. But the judges questioned whether legislative action has made the hearing irrelevant. Lawyers for both sides said no.


BENTON - The Slate of candidates for the Aug. 2 primary election in Scott County has grown since Feb. 22, the first day for filing for county office.
