Sunday, January 16, 2005

EAST PRAIRIE - The East Prairie Eagles improved to 12-3 and 3-0 in the Scott-Mississippi Conference with a 79-63 home win against Delta on Friday.

East Prairie got 23 points, including five 3-pointers out of Jordan Sanders. Freshman Tony Jones had 14 points and Preston Shoemaker added 12 points.

Delta got a game-high 33 points from Brent Menz. Aaron Kinder added 14 points.

"I thought everybody played really well," said East Prairie coach Jason Irby. "We jumped on them pretty quick in first quarter and set the tone. The kids shared the ball really well. We couldn't stop Menz but overall I thought we did a decent job defensively."

Delta falls to 7-7 and 1-2 in conference play.

The two will meet again tomorrow in the Scott-Mississippi Conference Tournament at Oran at 8 p.m. East Prairie is seeded fourth while Delta is fifth.

CAMPBELL -- Risco dropped a Tri-County Conference game to Campbell 57-49 on Friday.

Risco saw a 19-13 first-half lead dissipate with a 19-6 third-quarter Campbell advantage.

"We're just having trouble right now putting four quarters together," said Risco coach Brandon Blankenship. "We have one bad quarter and that seems to kill our chances."

Risco (3-8, 0-2) was led by Andrew Halford with 18 points. Halford was a perfect 12-for-12 from the free-throw line.

Risco hosts Cooter in a conference game on Tuesday.

The Indians posted their seventh straight victory with a Jefferson County Conference win at home.

Alex Armbruster scored 21 points to lead St. Vincent (9-4 overall, 2-1 JCC). Danny Rellergert and Waylon Richardet each added 15 points, while Jacob DeWilde scored 12.

Marquand used the full-court press to create turnovers in a home victory against Leopold.

Jay Francis poured in 28 points to pace Marquand (2-9), while Josh King scored 27 points, with three 3-pointers. Eric Seiler scored 17 points to lead the Wildcats.
