SIKESTON - Mrs. Eli Willams entertained Sunday with a dinner for her son, Hiram Allen, who that day celebrated his birthday.

SIKESTON - A junior circus will invade Sikeston Wednesday. There will be a jungle and safari with elephants, monkeys, ponies and dogs. The one-day event on the South Elementary school lot on West Malone will be sponsored by the Optimist Club.

July 2, 1987

SIKESTON - The City of Sikeston's application for $5,295 to conduct a resource recovery feasibility program is one of 29 energy-related grant applications which will be considered for funding. Doug Friend, planning coordinator, explained that the program study which is being sought locally is regional in scope. The study would try to determine if it would be feasible to operate a waste recovery system as a solution to the existing landfill problems.


SIKESTON - Instead of complaining among themselves, the residents of one neighborhood in Sikeston are making an effort to gain the city's support for their cleanup efforts. Although the South Central Neighborhood Association's planned walk to the city administration building has been canceled, officers are still urging residents to attend the council meeting Monday.

SIKESTON - As a paramedic at Missouri Delta Medical Center, John Harris knows firsthand how dangerous fireworks can be. But fortunately, he says the number of related injuries MDMC treats is minimal.


SIKESTON - Over 200 people turned out Sunday to watch the fastest growing racing sport in the area at SEMO Kart Raceway. Troy English won the Stock Heavy class. After winning the class, English came back to piece an impressive second in Stock Medium, behind feature winner John Langley.


MOREHOUSE - Mary Towe of Morehouse has received recognition for having the Yard of the Month for the month of May.
