CARUTHERSVILLE - Arraignment is set for Thursday for a man accused in the murder of two Pemiscot County brothers.
Ronald Harvey Howell Jr., 27, of Fayette is charged with two counts of first degree murder for the shooting deaths of Jeffrey J. Chamness, 42, and Gregory A. Chamness, 35. The brothers were found shot to death in the living room of their trailer, located at 1425 County Highway 563, which is near the Arkansas-Missouri line.
The shooting was reported in a 9-1-1 call received at 2:23 p.m. Sunday. Howell was taken into custody later that day on Highway 60 near Dexter.
Associate Circuit Judge Byron D. Luber issued the arrest warrants Monday for Howell with no bond allowed. Arraignment is set for 10 a.m. Thursday in Division II of Pemiscot Circuit Court.
A second suspect, reported earlier as Howell's father, was taken into custody in Pemiscot County after the shooting. The man was later released by law enforcement officials with no charges filed against him.
While the investigation has not revealed a motive for the shootings, authorities did note earlier that illegal drugs were found at the scene.
Investigating the case were officers with the Pemiscot County Sheriff's Office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Dug and Crime Control.
