DPS shuts down drug ring

Tuesday, March 26, 2002

SIKESTON -- A Sikeston drug ring involving the sale of marijuana and prescription pills to Sikeston students was shut down by the Sikeston Department of Public Safety.

According to reports, a search warrant was served on a residence last Thursday and three people were arrested. Two were charged with possession with the intent to distribute when five ounces of marijuana packaged for sale was located. The two agreed to assist in the investigation and arranged the delivery of four additional pounds of marijuana by the source. On Friday, the source arrived and was arrested after the delivery of the four pounds of marijuana.

Continuing in the investigation, it was arranged that the source for prescription pills would also work on setting a delivery of 100 Xanex. On Monday, the transaction was completed and the source was arrested at a local pharmacy where the suspect worked and had stolen the pills.

According to drug unit detectives, most of the marijuana and pills were being distributed to Junior and Senior High School students.

Other charges and arrests are pending in the investigation and should be completed sometime in April.
