Speakout 3/27

Call 471-6636

I'm calling about the March 18 "Reason for demise" of Kmart where someone is blaming the senior citizens for riding roughshod through the aisles. I'm a senior citizen and am disabled. I can't run and don't go roughshod through the store. I try to get out of the way of other people. Younger people get out there and hog the handicapped spaces in the parking lot, throw their uneaten food in the parking lot, throw their soda bottles down, throw their discarded filthy, stinking diapers they peel off their kids in the store. They let the children run through the toy department and destroy things and eat food off the shelves, running into grownups who are standing there trying to look at a product the kids wouldn't be interested in. When you accuse people my age, and we look and see what kind of behavior you younger people have, you should be ashamed because when you get to be my age, there probably won't be anything left for you people to complain about. Please put this in the paper. I hope to hell you all read it because it's true.

In response to the March 18 caller accuse the senior citizens causing us to lose Kmart, I really hope that young, articulate person doesn't work in the healthcare field in any capacity. I also hope this caller's parents are well heeled and have enough money to pay for their care later in life. I sure wouldn't want to be under the care of the person who wrote that letter. They'd put me on the side of the road with a blanket. I've shopped in Kmart since the day it opened and have never been overtaken by a horde of elderly. To the caller, if you want to know what the word "rude" is, take a look in the dictionary and your picture will be beside it. Shame on you!

To the person blasting senior citizens at Kmart, I am a senior citizen and I am a spending customer at Kmart. Too bad some of the friendliness and kindness you speak about their employees did not rub off on you. In the future, if you can tolerate senior citizens long enough, you will be a senior citizen also. You should associate with senior citizens and you would learn all about living, life and respect. Wake up, Mr. or Ms. Lad-i-dah, and smell the roses in our wonderful United States of America. It is not "shame on you, senior citizens." Reverse that on yourself. Your "Reason for demise" is plain stupid!

I see by the Standard that Jean Carnahan is going to run again. She keeps crowing about how she beat John Ashcroft in the last election. John Ashcroft didn't even say a thing. When he found out he was going to be running against a dead man, and they had put his widow in there, he was too much of a gentleman to do any campaigning so he let her have it. So why does she keep blowing about how she won - she won? Meet John Ashcroft. They need to vote that woman out of there. That woman's an airhead. She's like a goose - she gets up to a new world every day. She doesn't know if she's coming or going.

This is for the person who thinks Americans live a relaxed lifestyle. This caller said jobs are being moved to Asia and Mexico because Americans only want to work 35 to 40 hours a week and over there they work 75 to 80 hours a week. I don't know who you are, but you've got this so totally wrong. I worked at Gates for several years and I lost my job, not because I only wanted to work a 40-hour work week (because that's what they want you to work, so it was out of my hands). It was over money. They move jobs to Mexico and Asia because of money, not because Americans don't want to work. I can't believe you would have the audacity to say that about Americans. America is the best country to live in. The only problem with it is that it's all about the money. That's why they move jobs to foreign countries - money. It has nothing to do with Americans being lazy because Americans are not lazy.
