SIKESTON - The Sikeston 8th grade football team dropped its season opener with a 30-0 loss to New Madrid County Central.

Sikeston had trouble moving the ball for most of the game which contributed to some short drives by the NMCC offense.

NMCC scored in the first quarter on a 3-yard run by quarterback Leslie Williams.

With 24 seconds left in the first half, Williams scored on a 13-yard run to make it 12-0. Sedrick Hemphill scored the two-point conversion on a reverse to make it 14-0.

As time expired in the first half, A.G. Sanders intercepted a Sikeston pass and returned it 40 yards for a touchdown. The two-point conversion run by Williams was successful, making the score 22-0.

The Eagles tacked on one final score in the fourth quarter on a 24-yard run by Dylan Harris. Deshaun Howard ran in the two-point conversion to make it 30-0 to reach the final score.

Sikeston's 8th grade team will be back in action on Saturday with a 10 a.m. game at Kennett.
