SIKESTON - Mrs. H.L. Harty was named Wednesday as local representative for WAVE enlistments.

SIKESTON - J.J. Webb and Frank Peters last Thursday purchased the Palace Cafe from Mrs. C.H. King. The cafe is to continue operation under the same name.

SIKESTON - Falkoff's School of Dance was recently represented at the Dance Caravan USA by Cecelia Falkoff and David Gilmore.

SIKESTON - The appointment of Donald R. Bohannon as Scott County Savings Bonds chairman was announced by Arthur K. Atkinson of St. Louis.

SIKESTON - Burglaries, larcenies and rapes continued to show a marked increase through the second quarter of this year, as compared to the same period in 1982, the Department of Public Safety reported.

SIKESTON - For more than 20 years it's been one of Sikeston's best-kept secrets - swim team. "There are several reasons why the swim team has stayed in the background of Sikeston sports," said Missy Marshall, swim meet director. "As a non-affiliated school sport, the swim team doesn't receive the support or funding that many others do (i.e.: tennis, football, golf, etc.). Also there are many who don't fully comprehend the difficulty of swimming as a sport."

PORTAGEVILLE - Two months ago, a fire left the New Madrid County Library's main library partially burned, smoke-filled and the books damaged by water. Today, changes are under way not only to restore the library system's main branch, but to bring improvements to the entire library system.
