Call 471-6636

I would like to SpeakOut about a convenience store on Malone Avenue. If the personnel don't know how to treat people, they should work in the back of the store where nobody can see you. The customers are who make your business and you should treat people the way you would like to be treated. If you own or a work at a business, when customers enter the store, you should treat them right because they are putting money into your business.

I am calling about the Altrusa Club. Can you tell me who their friends are and how they go about getting things to people? I received a Valentine package and don't know who these friends are or anything about them.

The Altrusa International Club of Sikeston's "Heart to Heart" program is just to remember people on Valentine's Day. The organization does not publicize who the Heart to Heart bag comes from. It's just a way for you to know that someone is thinking of you.

I would like to disagree with Mr. Bridger's evaluation of the benefits that could arise from the proposed baseball stadium. People in this area will not receive any of the benefits that I can see. Visitors will not be staying in our motels, eating in our restaurants or shopping in our stores. Maybe we won't pay for it with new taxes, but the amount the state will donate in the tax relief have been paid to the state to reduce the budget crunch. If the Cardinal organization wants a new stadium, let them build it. I have no doubt if a poll was taken here, even throughout the state, the overwhelming majority of voters would be against it.

Recently, a caller to SpeakOut was wondering why the ACLU had not acted against children's television because Christian programming is included in the basic TV package. What ever happened to diversity? Christians are people too. I was offended by one of Charter's channels so, first of all, they blocked it for me. Why not do the same thing and quit whining? This is not a church and state thing. Charter is a business and not a political institution. Eleanor Roosevelt once told a man if he didn't want to join a union he could work somewhere else. So if you don't want to watch a Christian program, watch something else. That's the American way. It's not the ACLU way.

I would like to comment about the person who stole money out of my car on the Kmart parking lot. That was pretty low, considering it was Girl Scout cookie money and one of these days you will get paid for that. What goes around comes around and, believe me, it will come back around.

Are there any churches or schools in the area that could use old greeting cards for a fund-raising project or for an art class?

This is for the person concerned about the East Prairie School Board. There has been a lady on this school board for several years. We have no problem with that.

I want to thank the American Legion for the dance they put on for the young people here in Sikeston.

I see where Mike Jensen is telling that the words "affirmative action" drives him up the wall and makes him go berserk. Well, after reading all his editorials, the words inequality and segregation must be like a Brahms Lullaby to the man.
