Adults assist in local FCA activities

Sunday, February 24, 2002

SIKESTON - Student led and student initiated, the local chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes also has an adult chapter that offers the youths support which includes anything from leg work to behind the scenes help.

The adult chapter plays a big role in helping the youths raise money to attend leadership camp at Ausbury College in Lexington, Ky. Last summer the adult chapter's efforts resulted in 11 young people being sent to leadership camp. But because sending a youth to camp costs an average of $250, Moyers said donations are both greatly needed and appreciated.

"None of our money goes for administrative purposes, it all goes to the kids," noted Moyers, youth minister at Trinity Baptist Church. "We bought T-shirts and sent kids to camp last year so our funds are depleted and we're trying to recoup. We have overwhelming number of kids wanting to go so we really need help."

The adult group of officers meets at 8:30 p.m. in the library at Trinity Baptist Church on the first Wednesday of every month and are looking for adults who are interested in being part of an adult huddle of FCA. The first organizational meeting will be at 7 p.m. in the gym at Tanner Street Church of God starting March 11.
