Your View 8/28: Dreams do come true

Wednesday, August 28, 2002

Twenty of our kids at the Kenny Rogers Children's Center attended Camp Barnabas in Purdy this year. KRCC therapists will select 25 children receiving services at the Center to attend camp next year. A final decision will be made in the next few weeks.

The Center pays the total cost for the kids to attend camp and it cost KRCC more than $9,200 to send the 20 children who attended camp this year.

We would like to offer a special thanks to the following sponsors who helped underwrite the cost of this year's camp. Simply stated, without them, we could not afford this wonderful and life-changing program.

They include: Easter Seals West Kentucky, Scott County Senate Bill 40 Board, New Madrid County Memorial VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 7183, Sikeston Elks Lodge 2319, Jim and Marilyn Schwaninger, New Madrid Eagles Lodge Fraternal Order of Eagles 4206 and Sikeston American Legion Auxiliary Post 114.

We would like to thank each one of these outstanding sponsors. Perhaps the following words written by one of the children's parents best summarizes the impact Camp Barnabas has each year:

"I thank all of you for giving my child the opportunity and experience of a lifetime. He said camp was awesome and he had a fantastic time. Thanks for making my son's dreams come true."

In partnership with Camp Barnabas, and most of all thanks to our sponsors. Dreams really do come true!

Chuck Martin, executive director Kenny Rogers Children's Center
