Chaffee boys end season with loss

POPLAR BLUFF -- The Class 2, District 2 Tournament started on Saturday at the Black River Coliseum in Poplar Bluff.

In the boys tournament, Chaffee saw its season come to an end with a 61-48 loss to Greenville in the play-in game.

Sam Burnett scored 18 points for the Red Devils while James Reischman contributed 16. Chaffee's season ends at 6-17.

Greenville (5-17) will face top-seeded Advance today at 4 p.m.

In the girls tournament on Saturday, the Chaffee Lady Red Devils defeated Ellington 54-45.

Jennifer Vandeven led the charge with 21 points. Amy Holmes finished with 11, followed by Mallory Kiefer with 13.

It was the first district win in coach Tammy Brock's four years at the school. Chaffee (7-13) will face Van Buren in the second round on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

MALDEN -- The first round of the Class 3, District 1 girls basketball tournament took place on Saturday at Malden High School.

Second-seeded Kennett defeated New Madrid County Central 52-32, third-seeded Doniphan beat Portageville 76-56, and fourth-seeded Malden nipped Caruthersville 54-50.

Top-seeded Twin Rivers received a first-round bye. They will face Malden in the second round on Tuesday at 6 p.m., followed by Doniphan versus Kennett at 7:30 p.m.

The Class 3, District 1 boys tournament will start today. NMCC will face Kennett at 4 p.m., followed by Doniphan versus Caruthersville at 6 p.m., and Portageville versus Malden at 7:30 p.m.
