With the victory, the Lady Bulldogs end the regular season with a record of 7-8.
"We improved a lot, especially compared to last year," said Sikeston coach Jenny Hobeck. "We got a lot of new, young talent and our older girls really chipped in and helped out. My goal was to have a .500 season, and we almost made it. This is definitely something we can build on. We've got six freshmen returning as sophomores, then we'll have four juniors that come back as seniors."
Delta jumped out to a 2-0 lead in Thursday's game, but Sikeston was able to tie the score with two runs in the fourth inning. With Paige Silverthorn and Molly Brinkmeyer on base in the sixth, Clark connected on the three-run shot to give Sikeston a 5-2 lead.
"Misti has been working hard all year," said Hobeck. "In the last couple of games her hitting has really come around."
Delta was able to score two runs in the bottom of the inning, but their rally fell one point short.
In the seventh inning, Delta had the bases loaded with just one out. Silverthorn threw one runner out at the plate on a force, then Blurton struck the final batter out to seal the win for Sikeston.
"We came out and played a really good game defensively," said Hobeck.
Brinkmeyer pitched the first 1 1/3 innings, allowing no hits and six walks with three strikeouts. Allison Blurton threw the final 5 2/3 innings, giving up 10 hits and five walks with five strikeouts.
For Delta, Rebecca Cook was charged with the loss. In seven innings of work, she allowed six hits and one walk with six strikeouts. At the plate, Brinkmeyer was 2-for-2 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run. Silverthorn was 1-for-3 with two runs, Clark was 1-for-3 with three RBIs and a run. Jessica Owens was 1-for-4 with a run. Blurton also had a hit.
