Your View 6/12: In response

Thursday, June 12, 2003

I am writing this letter in response to a couple of SpeakOut articles in today's paper.

One was addressed to 70- and 80-year-olds saying this is a good time to get out of this world because the President hasn't an idea on how to fix the economy. It's not the Republicans' or Democrats' fault on the economy.

I make "X" amount of money per year. I can't spend more than that without going into debt. After I get my debt paid off then I start saving some money then, and only then can I start spending again. Then the economy gets better. Then when you're at your limit, it gets bad again.

The older people have a lot to live for. The conditions you live in are due to the choices you make. I have made some bad choices and I have to accept what happens then. I cannot blame someone else. Some of the poor are at fault because they choose not to work. According to the government, I live in poverty conditions with a family of four. But I have a house that I am buying and I own my own vehicles. I made the choice to work and be happy with what I have and I don't expect the government to give me more.

At least the Republicans are trying to give me a tax break. The Democrats are wanting to tax more. Look at Gov. Bob Holden. No one party is perfect. We need to work together and make the world a better place.
