SIKESTON - Eleven Cadet wives attended the weekly wives' party given last week at the Country Club. Wives of 431 men are invited to attend.

SIKESTON - Sikeston and the entire Bootheel were shaken up Sunday by an earth tremor, supposedly originating with the New Madrid Fault. Dishes danced on tables and highway pavement undulated up and down, frightening motorists. In every community of the area, the quake shook houses and buildings and in some communities, shattered windows and cracked plaster walls.


SIKESTON - Sandy York crowned Kenneth Anderson as Sweetheart king and Rita Hornback was his queen at the annual winter dance, sponsored by the Girls Athletic Association Thursday night.

BENTON - Completion date for collection of data for Scott County reassessment-equalization is May 31, according to Ralph Hendrickson, chief appraiser, who replaced Mike Limbaugh Feb. 1. He said the process does not necessarily mean a tax increase to property owners and said when all properties are assessed at current market value, each taxpayer pays his fair share.

SIKESTON - With the Monday night resignation of Sikeston City Councilman Marion Thompson came the question no one was ready to answer. Who will replace him? When? How will the person be chosen? Any names in consideration? "I have no idea on the length of the search," said City Manager Steve Borgsmiller. "It hasn't been discussed, but I'll take action and do whatever the council wants when they decide.


SIKESTON - Monday was the first day for the Birth to Four Preschool Screening program for Sikeston schools.
