According to Sikeston Department of Public Safety Director Drew Juden, Jack Pruitt, 45, was originally charged by Scott County Prosecutor Paul Boyd with one count of class B felony child molestation and possession of child pornography. Seventeen counts of sodomy and one additional child molestation charge were filed against Pruitt.
The additional charges are a result of interviews conducted with other children ages 5 to 10; and from evidence recovered during the execution of a search warrant at Pruitt's home on Greer Street.
The original charges came after a 5-year-old child was molested while spending the night with the suspect. According to Juden, the incident occurred at the suspect's home, who was acting as a friend of the family's and offered to babysit.
A search of the residence yielded the discovery of sexually explicit photos as well as other items that will be used to prosecute Pruitt.
Juden commended the cooperative effort by the Division of Family Service, the Scott County Sheriff's Department, Scott County deputies and DPS officers. "These types of cases can drag on for extended periods in trying to get all witnesses and victims interviewed," Juden said, "but the quick action by all agencies involved led to a timely conclusion."
