Sikeston soccer shutout by Cape Central; Oran holds off Bell City

SIKESTON -- Sikeston girls soccer team remained winless in the SEMO Conference with a 2-0 loss to Cape Central on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs (3-15-2, 0-6-1) were outshot 18-8. Goalie Audra Wooley stopped 16 shots.

"I wasn't disappointed," said Sikeston coach Derrick Long. "I thought we played a pretty good game."

Tierra Walker scored both goals for the visitors, one on an assist from Meghan Orr at the seven-minute mark and another at 51:00 on a penalty kick rebound.

The Sikeston junior varsity lost by an identical 2-0 score to finish its season at 1-7.

Sikeston closes out the regular season on Thursday at 4 p.m. at Fredericktown.

It was a day of fourth for the Bulldog golf team which participated in the Bootheel Conference Tournament sponsored by Dalhousie Country Club. Leading the Bulldogs was E. C. Atchison shooting a 77 to medal in a tie for fourth place. The team shot a 342 to tie with Dexter for fourth place.

"It was a beautiful day at a premier golf course recently ranked as the second best course in Missouri," said Sikeston coach Rick Oetting. "This was the end of our season, all that is left is to travel to state where Atchison will shoot with the best to repeat as an all-state medalist again."

Other Sikeston golfer scores were Derris Butler (85), Martin Schaefer (86) and Zed Hagen (94).

BASEBALL

BELL CITY -- Oran, although outhit 13-11, defeated Bell City 8-5 on Tuesday.

Oran, playing its seventh game in seven days, improved to 14-6.

Ryan Bouge went 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the Eagles. Caleb Seyer, on a recent home-run binge, banged another, a solo shot, and added a double in four trips. Paul Bucher also collected two hits, including a RBI double.

Austin Dumey went five innings for the win. He allowed three earned runs on nine hits with two strikeouts and no walks.

Trevor Irwin closed with two innings of four-hit ball. He gave up two runs with four whiffs and no walks.

Bell City's Nick Niemczyk took the loss, going the distance while allowing eight runs, three earned, on 11 hits with four strikeouts and three walks.

Niemczyk and Clay Dover topped the Cubs hit list with 3-for-4 days. Dover drove home two runs. Blaine Stewart and Garrett McIntyre chipped in with two hits and a RBI apiece.

Oran hosts Hayti today at 2:30 p.m.

Jackson's baseball team survived four errors to hold off Farmington 11-9 in a matchup of the top two seeds in Class 4 District 1 at Farmington on Tuesday.

Jason Meystedt went 4-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs for the Indians (15-2), and Chad Minson added three hits. Brandon Gendron and Zach Brazier each had two hits for Jackson.

Meystedt started on the mound but allowed nine hits and six earned runs in 5 2/3 innings before being replaced by winning pitcher Kyle Brown, who allowed two hits in the final 1 1/3 innings.

Jackson has the top seed in the district and Farmington is seeded second.

Andy Stephens struck out 11 and allowed just three hits to propel host Scott City to its sixth win in seven games.

The Rams (7-7) scored the game-winning run with two outs in the sixth.

Jon Barr led Scott City with two hits. Kelly is seeded first in the Class 2 District 2 tournament hosted by Scott City, which is seeded third.

Meadow Heights freshman Derek Hanners struck out eight in five innings to lead the Panthers to a home win.

Hanners also had three hits, including a double. Joel Hahs added two hits for Meadow Heights (9-8). Nathan Stroder had a home run for Delta (4-9).

Relief pitcher Austin Morrison came on with two on in the seventh inning and struck out the side to preserve the Bluejays' victory. Austin Hahs picked up the win.

Morrison also had two hits and a double, as did Ryan Pohlman and Johnnie Price for Oak Ridge (7-9). Tyler Williams had three hits. For Woodland, Josh Foster and losing pitcher Andrew Wagoner each had two hits, including a double. Austin Bollinger had three hits.

St. Vincent scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to rally for a home win. In a preview of next week's Class 2 District 2 quarterfinal game, St. Vincent blew a 12-4 lead before rallying in the seventh.

Luke Guyot got the game-winning hit with a two-run double. Brian Buchheit had three hits, two RBIs and two runs scored for the Indians (6-10). Joey Guilliams had two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored.

Waylon Richardet added two hits and three runs scored. Kyle Kline picked up the win on the mound with two innings pitched. Kline also hit a home run.

East Prairie scored all seven of its runs with two outs and won at Chaffee. Steven Dooley suffered the loss for Chaffee (5-12), allowing four earned runs and striking out seven in four innings before being relieved by Adam Crowe in the fifth. Augi Orr had two hits for the Devils.

TRACK AND FIELD

Kelly won the boys meet, and Chaffee dominated the girls side at the five-

team meet in Chaffee.
