SIKESTON - Fred Joe Rettig, 77 years old, pioneer farmer of Scott County, died at the home of his son, Otto Rettig, six miles north of Sikeston, Tuesday morning.

SIKESTON - The women's committee of the Chamber of Commerce has announced the names of five women who will be honored at the annual harvest award tea Sunday. Cited for their work for Sikeston will be: Eva Welter, Mrs. Harold Pittman, Mary Lathom, Edna York and Mrs. Elmer Poage.


SIKESTON - Approval of plans to widen a two-mile section of U.S. Route 61 in Sikeston was received by the Missouri Highway Commission Wednesday.


PORTAGEVILLE - John Allen, converted from a lineman to a back by the Portageville Bulldogs, is leading the district in scoring with 51 points.

SIKESTON - The Kenny Rogers Cerebral Palsy Charity Walk and auction, which were held Saturday, raised approximately $17,000 for the local facility, according to John Chadd, CP Center director.


CHAFFEE - Bob Felton, 45, has been named the new administrator at Chaffee General Hospital. Felton, who has 15 years experience in hospital administration, will take over Nov. 1 from Bill Van Pelt.

SIKESTON - Jessica HeiRonimus was named the 1996 Sikeston High School Fall Homecoming queen during Friday's game. Miss HeiRonimus is the daughter of Dan and Linda HeiRonimus. Escorting the queen was Zac Weeks.


SIKESTON - The Sikeston Bulldogs demolished the New Madrid County Central Eagles 35-0 during Friday night homecoming action at the Sikeston Public School Stadium.
