SIKESTON - Miss Isabell Bess' home economics class of the Sikeston High School will entertain the members of the boards of education, the secretary and superintendents and their wives with a dinner at the cottage Thursday evening. Miss Hess will retire at the end of the school year, after teaching the past 21 years in the local schools. She plans to retire with her sister, Miss Caroline Hess and they will live on their farm near Portageville, which they have been operating.

40 years ago: May 22, 1963

SIKESTON - A special election will be held June 9 on a proposal to annex to the city of Sikeston about 1,000 acres of land. Of this, about 100 acres is in New Madrid County, the rest in Scott county.

SIKESTON - The first musical concert of the summer will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday in Malone Park. The concert will feature the Golden Oldies group, which will serenade any onlookers with fine music.

SIKESTON - Ray Clinton, the 1993 Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year, has constructed many of Sikeston's buildings. Clinton's construction company built the Sikeston Airport, Missouri Delta Medical Center and Triangle. Trinity Baptist Church holds a special meaning to Clinton - he is a member of the congregation and sealed the cornerstone for the ceremony. During the evening, which included an address by former CIA Director William Colby, also honored were Sikeston Department of Public Safety Capt. Drew Juden as Sikeston Chamber of Commerce Law Enforcement Officer of the Year and Lew Polivick as the Sikeston Jaycee Distinguished Service Award recipient.
