60 years ago

SIKESTON - Seventy members, 27 boys and 43 girls, will be graduated from the Sikeston High School at the commencement exercises to be held in the auditorium Monday night, May 31.

40 years ago

SIKESTON - One hundred and sixty-six senior boys and girls will march in the 62nd annual commencement exercises next Monday night in the amphitheater at the senior high school. Five more, who for some reason cannot march, will also receive diplomas.

20 years ago

BENTON - An employee of the state Disaster Planning and Operations office was in Scott County Friday to survey the damage caused by spring flooding. Paul Schleer was particularly inspecting roads and bridges.

SIKESTON - It was learned today that a representative of the U.S. Postal Service is in town gathering data and information as to possible sites for a new Sikeston Post Office.

SIKESTON - Vess Bottling Co. will break ground Thursday on a new bottling plant to be constructed in Sikeston along Highway 60 West. Gov. Mel Carnahan will attend the groundbreaking, then be the guest of honor at a special luncheon. The new bottling plant in the New Madrid County portion of Sikeston marks Vess' first expansion outside St. Louis in its 77-year existence and will create about 50 new jobs.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Drury Inn gave the students at DAEOC Head Start Center a free breakfast.

SIKESTON - Steven and Kathryn Nickell are the parents o their second son, born May 10, 1993, at Southeast Missouri Hospital. Seth Daric Nickell weighed 9 pounds and was 20-inches long.
