CHARLESTON - Helena Vernetta Duenne, 88, a resident of the Texas Bend Community north of Charleston, died at 4:15 a.m. Oct. 22, 2006, at the Charleston Manor.

Born May 7, 1918, at Mounds City, Ill., to the late Lester Thaddeus and Mamie Rue Eiceman Rodgers, she had lived in Mississippi County most of her life where she was a co-owner and operator of the Duenne Fabric Store in Charleston. A member of the St. Henry Catholic Church in Charleston, she was a member of the Daughter's of Isabella and the Quilters Club.

On Nov. 10, 1937, she married Henry Bernard Duenne Jr., who preceded her in death on Dec. 22, 2000.

She was also preceded in death by two sons, Charles Edward Duenne and Paul David Duenne, and one brother and two sisters.

Survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Bernard and Jane Duenne and Mike and Sue Duenne all of Charleston; one daughter and son-in-law, Janet Maria and John Kapatas of Belvedere, Ill.; and 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Henry Catholic Church in Charleston with Monsignor Richard Rolwing, senior priest in residence, as the celebrant.

Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery near Charleston.
