POPLAR BLUFF - William J. Shaw, 84, formerly of Piedmont and St. Louis, died at 3:20 a.m. May 21, 2003, at Three Rivers Healthcare in Poplar Bluff.

Born Nov. 27, 1918, in Caruthersville, son of the late William Dewey and Florence Truett Shaw, he was a deputy sheriff with the St. Louis Sheriff's Department for 20 years. He was of the Protestant belief.

On May 20, 1961, he married Gracie Cole who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Billie Jines of St. Charles and Denice Smith of Poplar Bluff; one brother, Gene Shaw of Sikeston; five sisters, Lillian Bailey of Wichita, Kan., Ruth Western and Bernice Harris of Sikeston, Edna Fox of Belleville, Ill., and Martha Curtis of Oran; and four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Two sisters preceded him in death.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston, where Masonic rites will be conducted at 6 p.m.

Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Wayne Trousdale and the Rev. Charles Armstrong of Hillsboro, officiating.

Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery near Charleston.

Pallbearers will be: Wesley Barnett, Billy Shaw, Johnny Polly, Cory Jines, Mike Kloess and Robbie Grimes.
