ORAN - Willie C. Hawkins Sr., 73, formerly of Sikeston, died at 11:05 am. May 19, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Born Oct. 8, 1929, in Darling, Miss., son of the late Hattie Hawkins, he was a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon and usher. He was employed by the Sikeston Motor Company for nearly 29 years before retiring.
On July 9, 1955, at Birdie, Miss., he married Charlean Taylor who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: three sons, Willie C. Hawkins Jr. of Sikeston, Myron L. Hawkins of Kansas City and Jimmie J. Hawkins of San Antonio, Texas; four daughters, Mizella Davis, Floria J. Hawkins and Barbie Hawkins of Kansas City and Kenda L. Rencher of Broken Arrow, Okla.; one sister, Ola Mae Hawkins of Sikeston; and eight grandchildren.
One sister, Mildred Hawkins, and one granddaughter, Denitra N. Hawkins, preceded him in death.
Visitation is from 10 a.m. Saturday until service time at 11:30 a.m. at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston. The Rev. Flem Bronner, pastor of Strangers Home Baptist Church in St. Louis, will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Sikeston Memorial Park Cemetery.
