SIKESTON - The Sikeston soccer team posted a 4-0 shutout against Farmington on Monday night at the Sikeston Recreational Complex.

Sikeston got two goals apiece out of Blake Taylor and J.R. Bizzell on the night, but the real star of the game was the Bulldog defense.

"I thought our defense played really well and that stems from our midfield," said Sikeston coach Derrick Long. "Every game that we've controlled the shots, it all stems if we control the midfield or not. E.C. Atchison. Martin Schaefer and Ryan Beaird all controlled possession of the ball in the middle and whenever we get that, our offensive players like Bizzell and Taylor can make runs and have opportunities to score."

Taylor gave Sikeston the lead on an assist from Eric Chappell at the 14:00 m ark. Bizzell then extended the lead to 2-0 on an assist from Martin Schaefer at the 20:00.

Bizzell added his second goal on an assist from Taylor at the 43:00 mark. Taylor got his second goal when Bizzell returned the favor at the 52:00 mark.

Sikeston out-shot Farmington 24-11 while Sikeston goalie Scott Droddy provided the shutout.

Sikeston (5-6) plays at Jackson today at 5 p.m.

Sikeston's junior varsity tied Farmington 2-2. Adam Gillean scored both goals for Sikeston. Chris Matthews provided both assists.
