CHARLESTON - Four hundred prisoners of war arrived in Charleston yesterday to relieve the shortage of cotton pickers in the area.

SIKESTON - The new carnival queen for 1964 is Miss Claudia McConachie of Charleston, who was crowned Saturday noon by Secretary of State Warren E. Hearnes, who is the Democratic candidate for governor. Her court was Miss Jackie Larsen of Dexter, first runner-up; and Miss Barbara Reed of Dexter, second runner-up.

SIKESTON - Sikeston Little Theatre will celebrate 25 years of productions Oct. 6 at 8 p.m. at the Chaney-Harris Cultural Center. The program will consist of musical numbers from approximately 20 of the productions presented by Sikeston Little Theatre.

NEW MADRID - Don Lloyd, city administrator of New Madrid, is the new first vice president of the Missouri Association of Municipal Utilities.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce recently received a certificate of membership for its participation in the Missouri Community Betterment program. Sikeston will be judged on a Community Betterment Project Book, which will compete with other cities with similar populations to Sikeston.

SIKESTON - Personnel from the Sikeston Department of Public Safety's fire division were called to the Johnson and Matthews Trailer Company, 1601 West Malone, Wednesday afternoon. The fire was extinguished within an hour.
