PORTAGEVILLE -- On Saturday, BA Sports will be presenting the 2002 BA Sports Show-Me Showcase at Portageville High School.
This basketball scouting combine will feature 104 of Southeast Missouri's finest junior and senior players, along with junior college freshmen and sophomores from the tri-state region.
All participants will be competing with and against each other. The four-on-four format will give all participants a chance to showcase their skills in front of a number of two and four-year collegiate coaches and scouts.
"The sole purpose of this combine is to help kids in our region who don't get recognized unless their teams make it to state," said Brad Aycock, owner of BA Promotions. "The coaches contacted us about this and we're hoping to make this a new tradition and hold it at different schools in the region."
According to Aycock, some of Stoddard County's best will be participating in the combine including Chris Carr and Sherome Cole. The day will begin at 8 a.m. with a short instruction session. The instructional committee will assist in coaching the teams throughout the day and is consisted of former coaches Lennies McFerren, Ron Cookson, Carroll Cookson, Paul Hale, Fred Johnson, Pete Townsend, Bobby Spencer, Jim Davis, Danny Rowland and Carl Ritter.
Several four and two-year institutions were invited to attend. Included on the invitation list are Three Rivers, Shawnee, Truman State, Evangel, SIU-Edwardsville, Central Missouri, Lincoln University, SEMO, SIU-Carbondale, Arkansas State, SMSU, Illinois State, and Austin Peay.
The event is open to the public and admission is $3 per person.
