SIKESTON - The City Council has agreed to cooperate with the mayor, prosecuting attorney and city attorney in efforts to stop prostitution. The action came after Maj. R.C. Rickwood appeared to protest the street walker activity directed toward cadets.

SIKESTON - Eight typewriting progress certificates were awarded this week to Mary Helen Trousdale, 41 words a minute; Patsy Ruth Gentle, 39 words; Bill Foley, 39; Tom Roberts, 36; Loraine Graber, 34; Martha Jane Bradley, 34; Shirley Shainberg, 33; and Lavern Yoffie, 33 words a minute.

SIKESTON - Clem Beal, 38, was named Man of the Year for 1961-62. The announcement came before a crowd of 500 at the annual Chamber of Commerce banquet at the Armory.

NEW MADRID - New Madrid County Central High School announced Gerald Murphy will return to become the new basketball coach, replacing Leonard Bishop. Murphy comes to NMCC from Portageville. He was previously the football coach for the NMCC Eagles.

CHARLESTON - Debbie Corse will serve as president of the R-1 School District's Board of Education for the coming year. Elected vice president of the board during Thursday evening's session was Eddie Barnhill.
