EAST PRAIRIE -- Otis Lawrence Black, 61, died at 3:37 a.m. May 22, 2005, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
Born July 4, 1943, in Molene, Ill., to the late Wilford Lee Black and Thelma Pauline Posey Black Simpkins, he lived most of his life in Mississippi County. He was a riverboat pilot for the American Commercial Barge Lines and was a member of the First Baptist Church in East Prairie. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
On Nov. 14, 1964, at First Baptist Church in East Prairie, he married Darlene Henry who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: one brother, Willis Lee Black of East Prairie; two sisters, Marilyn Kay Haney of East Prairie and Patricia Ann Gaddis of Poplar Bluff; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, J.T. Simpkins. Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie, where services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. George White will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery with Shelby Funeral Home of East Prairie.
