SIKESTON - Lyman Gross, Sikeston Hotel man, announced today that he would open Friday the Gross Cutrate Liquor and Drug Sundries on Highway 61- between the Texaco Station and the Gross Hotel.

SIKESTON - At its official organization meeting last night after the annual school election, School. Board officers were elected as follows: L.M. Standley president; O.C. Lewis, first vice president; A.D. Martin, second vice president; Roger Bailey, secretary; and Betty Boyd, treasurer. Other members of the board are Tharon Stallings, Robert Mitchell and Bruce Lewis. Stallings and Lewis were reelected for three year terms.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston eighth and ninth grade track team made a good showing in the Kennett Invitational Tournament Thursday afternoon by taking second place in both divisions and setting several school records and one meet record.


NEW MADRID - A new neighborhood watch program in New Madrid is already being called a success. In the first night of patrolling the streets, the watch group helped police catch two crooks.

SIKESTON - Those planning to attend the second annual Celebrity Waiter event may be surprised at who makes an appearance. Dolly Parton, Elvis Presley, KISS, Hammer and others are expected to serve as waiters for the evening. Celebrity Waiter, the only fund-raiser for the Scott County Chapter of the American Heart Association, will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. April 24 at the Sikeston Country Club.


SIKESTON - A contract was awarded to install traffic signals at Malone Avenue and Ingram Road and at Main Street and Smith Avenue.
