SIKESTON - Phillip J. Barkett Jr., 12-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip J. Barkett Sr., will be the delegate from Sikeston to participate in an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C., sponsored by the Automobile Club of Missouri from May 9-13.

SIKESTON - The Daily Standard's Calendar Girl for April, Laura Gelsheimer, is one of the 12 finalists in the Miss Sikeston Contest. The 17-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Merle Gelsheimer is a sports enthusiast active in softball, volleyball, tennis. She also enjoys singing and her favorite subjects are biology and math. She plans to attend college with the hopes of some day becoming a pharmacist.

SIKESTON - Retired Judge Marshall Craig was honored Thursday by Lions Club International for being an outstanding member for 50 years.

BENTON - There are races on the Democratic ticket for sheriff, assessor, coroner and associate judge as well as both commissioners' seats. Sheriff Bill Ferrell is opposed in his bid for reelection to a four-year term by A.E. "Bud" Mills while Lonnie Ponder has filed for coroner and will face Scott Amick, the incumbent, in the August Democratic primary.
