SCOTT CITY - Richard Ray Whitaker, 59, died at 2:40 p.m. Feb. 11, 2005, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Born March 31, 1945, in Cape Girardeau, son of Lillian Huskey Sample of Cape Girardeau and the late John T. Whitaker, he was a U.S. Army Spc. 5 in the Vietnam War. He had been a truck driver for Delta Asphalt, ASA Asphalt and Potashnick and was a member of the Broadway United Methodist Church in Scott City.
On Aug. 11, 1990, at Gramercy, La., he married Carol Sue Gold who survives of the home.
Survivors in addition to his wife and mother include: two sons, Todd Gross of Fruitland and Rick Whitaker of Jackson; three daughters, Bonnie Davenport of Harleysville, Pa., Debbie Scherer of Oran and Janet Cantron of Fruitland; three sisters, Judy Young, Linda Cunningham and Nancy DePauw of Cape Girardeau; and 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services were conducted at 11 a.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City with the Rev. Bob McNabb officiating.
Burial followed in the Missouri State Veterans' Cemetery at Bloomfield.
