Speakout 6-23

Sunday, June 23, 2002

"Here's why" doesn't explain why. Spring break was March 17-20 with a teacher's meeting on March 21. Easter was April 18-21. There is no need for all that time off in March. And that doesn't explain the half-day off on Wednesdays. Either start school later and/or let them out earlier in May. But cut out all this unnecessary time off during the school year.

Call the Sikeston School Board at 472-2581. The personnel there will have qualified answers to your questions.

Why, if you are a priest, you can sexually molest little boys and not have to answer to the laws of the land. Any other denomination, whether it's Presbyterian, Church of God, or whatever who commits this crime, not only the local law, but the FBI would be involved. Tell me why. Tell me why. Tell me why.

In response to the SpeakOut concern regarding city vehicles, I speak for BMU only and not for City Hall. Employees who drive BMU vehicles home are supervisors and on call personnel who have to respond immediately to any utility-related problem. These people are on call 24 hours per day, seven days a week. You should be thankful for these dedicated BMU employees who make sure their lives are interrupted so that yours won't be. If you have further concerns, please come talk with me. - Ed Throop, general manager, Board of Municipal Utilities

There should be a Krystals in Sikeston because they have so many restaurants people are calling in the newspaper about. Popeye's Chicken - I'm OK with that too.

Whoever it is that wants a Popeye's Chicken to come to town is obviously ignorant. You want a Popeye's Chicken to come to Sikeston, go buy the franchise and build the building. That's the way it's done.

I'm all for a Popeye's going in here in Sikeston. Every time we go south, that is the first place we hit - either that or Steak 'N Shake.

Concerning the article about getting up a petition for a Popeye's Chicken in Sikeston, I guess that wouldn't be such a bad idea. It would be nice to have a White Castle located in Sikeston. I'd be more willing to sign that petition. I really hate to have to drive 100 miles to get mine hot off the grill. Come on. Let's get a White Castle here in Sikeston.
