CHARLESTON - The race for presiding commissioner in Mississippi County may narrow down to a two-way contest.

The Libertarian candidate for presiding commissioner, Steve Ledbetter, withdrew his candidacy Monday, according to Junior DeLay, county clerk for Mississippi County.

According to Missouri statutes, the Libertarian Party nominating committee in Mississippi County has until 5 p.m. Sept. 17 to notify the county clerk's office of a replacement candidate for inclusion on the November ballot.

Still slated to appear on the ballot are incumbent Democrat Jim Blumenberg and Republican challenger C. David Williams.
