ST. LOUIS - William Alonzo Dixon Sr., 85, formerly of Charleston and Cape Girardeau, died Dec. 10, 2002, at Christian Hospital Northeast in St. Louis.
Born March 29, 1917, son of the late Ozark and Essie Martin Dixon, he was educated in the Thompson Bend and Charleston School Districts. He served in the U.S. Army from Jan. 5, 1943, until Feb. 6, 1946, and retired as a carpenter with Penzel Construction in Jackson.
On Nov. 7, 1959, he married Mildred Virginia Wade who preceded him in death.
Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, William and Pat Dixon Jr. of St. Louis; two brothers, Robert Dixon of Baltimore, Md., and Herbert Dixon of Saginaw, Mich.; three sisters, Callie Rivers of Charleston, Rosemary Smith of Chicago, Ill., and Pauline Salvordoh of Danville, Ill.; and two grandchildren.
Eight siblings also preceded him in death.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Sparks Funeral Home in Charleston.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Futrell Memorial Church of God in Christ in Jackson with Elder William Bird Jr., officiating.
Burial will follow in the Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
