Free memory screenings will be offered at MDMC

Thursday, June 10, 2004

SIKESTON - Feel like your memory is slipping lately? Then jot down a reminder - a free, confidential memory screening will be offered June 17 at Missouri Delta Medical Center.

"A registered nurse will work with them to administer a mini mental status examination," said Rebekah Halter, community education manager for Senior Lifestyles at MDMC. "They'll just ask them questions regarding their memory. It takes about 15 minutes."

Right after the screening, feedback and referral information will be given to participants based on the evaluation. "They do need to register for this," Halter said. As reservations are required and enrollment will be on a first come, first served basis, she advised registering early.

MDMC's Senior Lifestyles unit, which provides acute treatment to individuals over the age of 55 in need of behavioral health services including those needs resulting from Alzheimer's disease, has partnered with the Alzheimer's Association to provide this screening.

For more information about the free memory screening or to schedule an appointment call Rebekah Halter at Senior Lifestyles, 472-7497.
