LILBOURN - Irene Simmons, 73, formerly of Portageville, died Jan. 26, 2005, at her daughter's home in New Madrid.
Born Sept. 8, 1931, in Osceola, Ark., daughter of the late Daniel and Lucille Wilson, she had worked as a teacher's aide for Head Start. She was a member of Zion Rock Missionary Baptist Church in Portageville, where she served on the Usher Board for many years.
In 1949, she married James Charles Ray Sr.
She and George Simmons were married in 1996 and he died in October 2004.
Survivors include: five daughters and one son-in-law, Lucille and Matthew Trotter of Portageville, Bettye Ray and Deborah Wilderness of Lilbourn, Mary Wilson of New Madrid and Peggy Ray of Memphis, Tenn.; three sons and one daughter-in-law, James Charles Ray Jr. and Tommye Ray of Benton Harbor, Mich., and Randy and Beverly Ray of Lansing, Mich.; one sister, Lula Bell Frazier of Tucson, Ariz.; two brothers, Charlie Wilson and James Wilson of Chicago; and 31 grandchildren and 54 great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were one son, Milton Ray; three brothers, Daniel Wilson Jr., Arthur Wilson and Calvin Wilson; and one sister, Elizabeth Strong.
Visitation is from 11 a.m. Saturday until service time at 1 p.m. at Zion Rock Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Robert Anderson will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Portageville City Cemetery.
Williams Funeral Home of Howardville is in charge of arrangements.
