CAPE GIRARDEAU - Helen Mildred Bertrand, 76, died Feb. 1, 2005, at the Lutheran Home.
Born Dec. 2, 1928, in Friedenburg, daughter of the late Lonnie Henry and Velma Farrar Mehner, she graduated from Cape Central High School and the Cape Girardeau Beauty College. She owned and operated the Bertrand Beauty Shop in Cape Girardeau for 50 years before retiring. A member of St. Mary Cathedral, the Cathedral Ladies and Daughters of Isabella, she was also a member of VFW Post 3838 Ladies Auxiliary for which she was president in 1958.
On Sept. 28, 1946, in Cape Girardeau, she married A.W. "Bill" Bertrand who preceded her in death on Jan. 12, 1983.
Also preceding her in death were one daughter, Karen Herron; one brother, Raymond Mehner; one sister, Nelda Bondurant; and one granddaughter.
Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Connie Bertrand of Cape Girardeau; one sister, Betty Glueck of Jackson; and four grandchildren, Kevin Herron of Virginia Beach, Va., Amy Bertrand Sirimaturos of St. Charles, Laura Costello of Thompsonville, Ill., and Jennifer Haag of St. Louis; and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel where parish prayers will be said at 7 p.m.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary Cathedral with the Rev. Tom Kiefer officiating.
Burial will follow in the St. Mary Cemetery.
