Support is again shown by area

Monday, March 7, 2005

The Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce would like to join the rest of the community in welcoming back our troops from Iraq: We are happy to have you safe at home. It was wonderful to see so many people out braving the cold weather to welcome our soldiers back on Tuesday morning and the afternoon ceremony was outstanding. That kind of community support just shows what a great area we live in.

Since I am talking about the support our community shows over and over again I would like to thank everyone who participated in our 10th Annual Business Expo and Career Fair.

I would like to give a special thanks to the U.S. Navy Recruiting folks who were Expo sponsors. In addition to the U.S. Navy Recruiting, other participants included Air Evac Life Team, B98-KBXB, Bootheel Healthy Start, Bulldog Financial Center, Burch Foods, Carnell Collision Repair, Communications on the Go, Goody's, Health Facilities Rehab Services, Kenny Rogers Children's Center, Lincoln University, Lowes Home Improvement, Manpower, Metro Business College, Mission Missouri, Mississippi River Radio, Missouri Career Center, Missouri Delta Medical Center, Missouri Department of Transportation, Missouri Army National Guard, Montgomery Bank, Pepsi Cola, Robert Morris College, SEMO Health Network, Shawnee Community College, Sikeston Area Higher Education Center, Sikeston Department of Public Safety, Sikeston Public Schools, Three Rivers Community College, Truman State University, U.S. Army Recruiting, US Bank, U.S. Marine Recruiting, West Ridge Place and YMCA of Southeast Missouri. I would also like to thank Turner Dairy and Houchins Donuts and the Sikeston High School Student Chamber of Commerce for all their assistance that day.

Another community event just around the corner is the Chamber's 55th Annual Awards Banquet scheduled for Thursday, April 7, at the Sikeston Field House. This year's theme is "Together We Shine ... A Salute to Our Local Industries." The evening will begin at 6:30 p.m. with music provided by the Sikeston High School Orchestra Quartet. We will be giving out many awards including Law Enforcement Officer of the Year, Educator of the Year, Small Business of the Year, Citizen of the Year and many more. Tickets are $35 per person; tables of six are $210 with table assignments made on a first-come, first-served basis. Tickets may be purchased at the SACC office. It promises to be an evening of good food and a lot of fun recognizing our best.
