BOOMER, W.Va. -- Jerry Rodney Jones, 73, formerly of Sikeston, Mo., died at 2:55 a.m. June 10, 2004, at the Charleston Area Memorial Hospital in Charleston.
Son of the late Carmelita Jones New, he retired after 26 years of service as director of student teaching at West Virginia University Institute of Technology in Montgomery. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Southeast Missouri State University, where he was a member of the honorary fraternity, Kappa Delta Pi. He also earned a master's degree and doctorate in education at the University of Mississippi and was listed in the Educational Who's Who of America. A member of the Church of God World Wide, he was a United States Air Force veteran of the Korean War.
On June 24, 1956, in Canalou, Mo., he married Leatha Landers who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Melisa Renee Bishop of Boomer, and Cynthia Lea Ramsey of Poplar Bluff, Mo..; one son, Jerry Rodney Jones II of Goshen, Ind.; one stepbrother, Howard New of Glen Alan, Miss.; one stepsister, Bonnie Carroll of Glen Alan; five grandchildren, Chasity Hope Farley of Jensen Beach, Fla., Nakeesha Marie Ramsey of Poplar Bluff, Corie Beth Jones of Boomer, Dustin Dale Ramsey of Poplar Bluff, and Jerry Rodney Jones III, of Boomer; and four great-grandchildren, Steven Michael Farley II and Brooke Elizabeth Farley of Jensen Beach and Kinsen Jarrod Ramsey and Dustin Dale Ramsey II of Poplar Bluff.
Services were conducted today at O'Dell Funeral Home in Montgomery, where George Trent officiated.
Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston until service time at 11 a.m. with Tom Nunnelee conducting the service.
Burial will follow at the Dogwood Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Missouri Military Funeral Honor Guard.
